After a long and timeless waiting for the launching new Proton MPV, Proton has finally confirmed that the launching date is in April 2009 during the official announcement of Proton MPV name – Proton Exora on 17 February 2009. The Exora is based on the name of flower – Ixora with the tagline “Keriangan Keluarga” means ‘happiness family’.


“We have already started the preliminary production and full production will start next month leading to launch in April,” said managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir after the official announcement of the new MPV’s name.

The new Exora is the first MPV with 7-seaters produced in Malaysia by Proton Holding Berhad. The production will be carried out in Shah Alam plant with targeted to produce 3,000 to 3,500 units Proton Exora in a month initially. The cost of investment for this MPV is RM450 million including about RM70 million of cost modification for Shah Alam plant. The new MPV will be exported to other neighboring countries such as Thailand and Indonesia by July 2009.

The new Exora will be powered by 1.6-litres Compro engine and available in 5 colours – Genetic Silver, Tranquility Black, Blue Haze, Pyrite Brown and Gaia Blue. It will be priced at below RM80,000.00 per unit. Booking will be open at a fee of RM1,000.00 from this coming Saturday, 21 February 2009 onwards at all 293 Proton Edar and EON sales offices nationwide. For those who book the new MPV on this Saturday will receive the Malaysian first MPV vehicle in April 2009.
