Can a sports car be environment-friendly too? Honda believes it’s possible and Honda FC Sport proves their point. The Honda FC Sport is a hydrogen-powered, 3-seat concept sports car which is being displayed at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2008.
The FC Sport is designed to accommodate a custom-formed high-power fuel cell stack placed between the rear seats and a lithium-ion battery pack in the middle of the concept sports car. The electric motor is located just ahead of the rear axle while the two hydrogen storage tanks are mounted above the rear axle which is visible from the above.
For the interior, the Honda FC Sport has provided three seating where the driver seat is located at the center position and the other two rear passenger seats are located at the left and right side of the driver’s seat. For entry to the vehicle, the enclosed canopy opens upward from the rear.
“The FC Sport emphasizes the design flexibility and potential of Honda’s V Flow fuel cell technology – already deployed in the Honda FCX Clarity sedan – and reconfigures it into a lightweight sports car design with an ultralow center of gravity, powerful electric motor performance and zero emissions,” said the press materials.
“The Honda FC Sport explores how to satisfy automotive performance enthusiasts in a world beyond petroleum,” said Dan Bonawitz, Vice-President of American Honda Motor Company. “People who love sports cars will still have a reason to love in a hydrogen-powered future.” But how true is this statement? The people who tested the performance of this concept will know it. Honda, The Power of Dream.
