Toyota Vios is a 4-door small economy sedan developed for the South East Asia and China markets. The second generation of Toyota Vios was launched in March/April 2007 in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. The 2nd generation VIOS is basically the same with the Toyota Belta in Japan or Toyota Yaris in US and Australian market. The only engine that available in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia (and likely Malaysia when the new VIOS is introduced later 2007 or 2008) is 1.5 liter 1NZ-FE engine where the model code for the cars is NCP93.
The second generation VIOS greatly improves on comfortability rather than handling, where interior is upgraded with more convenience features, and flat rear floor. Toyota Vios is available in 3 grades namely J (most basic grade with lesser equipments and accessories), E and G (luxurious grade with most accessories). However, no every grades will be sold in every countries. The standard accessories/equipments installed on G grade include CD/MP3 player, keyless entry, ABS (on all wheels), leather seat, driver and front passenger SRS Airbag, sports alloy rim, fog lamp, side moulding, and 60:40 fold down read seats.
CarBuyer.com.sg reviews and test drives Toyota Vios 1.5 E Grade (Automatic) edition, and concludes that Toyota Vios has the advantages of characterful small-Camry looks, roomy interior and sprightly performance, while letdown by very vocal engine and somewhat uncompromising ride. Overall, the biggest selling point of the new Vios should be its size. Plus the fact that keen drivers will relish the performance won’t hurt either. It’s actually quite lucky that the Corolla Altis is due for replacement, as the Vios can do pretty much everything it can. And better, too. The qualities of new Vios include easy to park, good build quality, handles well, spacious cabin and terrible engine.
