Volkswagen has announced its next generation 7-speed DSG transmission, codenamed DQ200 which features seven speeds and dual dry clutches, a sharp contrast from the previous six-speed version that sported a couple of wet clutches. Besides, the new seven-speed gearbox adopts a pair of dry, organic bonded friction linings that do not require cooling. In addition, this system also requires less power for the gear selection and clutch servo system, boosting fuel efficiency and powertrain performance.
With a length of 369 mm and weight of 79kg, the new DSG can be can be fitted to any in the VW range and cope with maximum power and torque figures of 168bhp and 184lb/ft respectively. First gear has been lowered to help standing-start acceleration, and seventh gear will be a long ratio designed for relaxed cruising and greater economy.
The Production of the gearbox is scheduled for end of the year with its first recipient will be the 1.4-litre TSI twincharge and 1.9 TDI Golf GTs.
